Swimming Raptor by ChrisMasna Swimming Raptor by ChrisMasna
-Little Patagonic Fisher-
Buitreraptor crossing a creek. Although these animals spend most of their lives near the water, feeding on fishes the same way than herons or storks, they're not specialized for swimming (no skin membranes between the toes)...let's hope there are no crocs around!

About Buitreraptor gonzalezorum: With an estimated lenght of 1.2m, a height of 0.4m and a weight of 5kg, this guy is a small member of the weird unenlagiinae family.

Based in :iconscotthartman:'s skeletal drawing and :iconyoult:'s comment: fav.me/d50b9vj

I enjoyed a lot painting this, and I strongly recommend these leaf brushes I recently discovered fav.me/d4mwyh6

There's a lot to like about this deviation: The quiet/misty atmosphere; The Buitreraptor's coloration/patternation; The under water/above water perspective.

Love it! The treatment of the background and the way the contours of the animal and curve of the swelling water play against each other are really satisfying.

I really thought the plumage would be black when I saw the WIP version! But this is very lovely too :XD:

I tried with black at first (buitre = vulture in spanish) but then I changed to a lighter gray so the "wet" is more visible.

This reminds me of museum displays for ecology exhibits, where the background is painted and there is a tank set so the water level is at the viewer's eye level.

I love the slenderness of the animal and the motion of the water. It's lovely.

"let's hope there are no crocs around!"

It occurs to me that this painting is precisely from croc's eye view :mwahaha:
