How I paint Dinosaurs - Part1 by ChrisMasna How I paint Dinosaurs - Part1 by ChrisMasna
This is my way to paint. I tried to illustrate the step-by-step of my own style.
Even when I look for tutorials here in DA everyday, I've never been formally taught in the art of digital painting, so maybe there are better ways to learn, I don't know, but I still believe this one is a good one to start.

About the Therizinosaurus:
1. Yes, I'm lazy enough to create a new head and colour scheme, so I took my Nothronychus and modified the proportions (after all I used a Therizino skull for the Nothro, we don't know how the Nothro skull was).
2. I stole the shape from here: albertonykus.blogspot.com/2011…

Some people will make comments like: "not all dinosaurs had protofeathers", "you forgot the scales lesson", "running therizinosaurs are pretty cool", "you forgot the pennaceous feathers lesson", "unicorns do not born from eggs"...well, that's why I say PART 1 in the title, genius!

Thanks.
I know I know, it's been a long time. I just have to find the time to re-do this first (since I changed my way to paint a little). Hopefully in a couple of months :)

Ah, it depresses me, I will never succeed to draw on the computer (yes, I am very defeatist)! Anyways, that's a nice lesson.

Will part 2,3,4,whatever ever be released?
I liked this one so much and I still want to see some more of it ;)

There are two main reasons of why they were not released yet:
1. I improved my way to paint, so I would have to re-do the Part1.
2. I lack of ideas. I will just do the part2:"How I do Feathers & Scales".
If you have any suggestion...:)

Well, that's just perfect the way it is. 2 parts are good enough for me!
If I'll ever have any idea, I'll sure tell you but for now I hope you'll post this second part ;) ...

How do you create the random dot brush? Did you download it? Great tutorial, it was really helpful to me. That's the only part that gave me trouble.

I'm glad that it was useful!
You can download it, there are a lot of free brushes in DA. Anyway, I prefer doing them. Here is a great tutorial to create a brush from shapes (for example the dots): [link]

Great tutorial and great looking Therizinosaur. (Agrees with his thought xD )

I'm a big dinosaur fan my self and my favourites include Parasaurolophus, Therizinosaurus and Gallimimus

I dont understand why he dont want that smeone uses his pics a reference, for me it would be an honor if someone uses my pics as reference, i think it is a good feeling if you know that your pictures help other artists to make good pictures, but it seems that everyone has a different opinion on that. :)

I used Photoshop CS5 now, but I learn most of these digital painting techniques by myself using SketchBook Pro, and I still use it for sketching.
